EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM GRADUATES 2026
9 June 2026

On June 5, 2026, the annual ITMP Graduate Day was held. The event took the form of a presentation of the Institute’s key educational programs, highlighting achievements and future development plans. It brought together graduates of the master's programs, faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as representatives of several leading Russian research centers in physics and mathematics.

This year, the occasion was particularly significant for graduates of two programs established with the support of the BASIS Foundation for the Advancement of Theoretical Physics and Mathematics:

During the official ceremony, graduates received commemorative gifts in recognition of their years of study at Moscow State University. Participants discussed the scientific achievements of the past year, and students shared their experiences and reflections on the program.

Daniel Perdomo Perez (Cuba), graduate of the “Geometry and Quantum Fields” program, shared the following:

I will be able to tell the world about the Geometry and Quantum Fields program, these two years of my life in which I underwent a transformation of the mind. The story of how brilliant professors and supervisors knew how to channel my natural curiosity for physics and mathematics and left me on the threshold of cutting-edge research in mathematical physics. Dedication and iron discipline were the only possible path (though there were entire weeks when nothing seemed to make sense) along with mutual support among fellow students, which was often the anchor that kept us from sinking. Each subject opened a window to a new universe; in each one, we found open questions that the community has not yet solved. It was a sign that we were on a path toward scientific excellence and the creation of a universal specialist. Our program is intense and demanding, perhaps only suitable for brave souls; in it, we acquire a unique education that enables us to understand and contribute to advanced branches of both physics and mathematics. Cutting-edge research allowed us to apply the techniques we learned, sometimes with failures, other times with small discoveries that made us feel all the effort was worthwhile. What was promised has been fulfilled: we now have what it takes to pursue a solid academic career and contribute to science”.

Vladimir Bykov, graduate of the Specialist program “Quantum Gravity and Mathematical Physics,” also shared his impressions:

The Quantum Gravity and Mathematical Physics specialization provided an excellent opportunity to immerse myself in the fundamental questions of theoretical and mathematical physics from the early years of study. What attracted me most was the wide selection of advanced courses and electives in modern areas of physics and mathematics, allowing students to discover their own research interests. I would particularly like to highlight the faculty, which consists of accomplished scientists whose guidance and interactions inspire scientific inquiry and independent research. At the same time, the atmosphere at ITMP is exceptionally friendly and open. Going forward, I plan to continue my academic and research career in a Russian doctoral program, building on the knowledge and experience I acquired through this specialization”.

The central event of the day was the lecture “From Oracle Bones to Neural Networks” by Dr. Timofey Khiryanov.

The presentation, devoted to the role of artificial intelligence in modern scientific research, generated considerable interest among attendees and sparked a lively discussion that continued during the coffee break.

A recording of the lecture will be made available via a link at a later date.

The formal diploma award ceremony for graduates will take place in July.

On behalf of the entire ITMP MSU community, we sincerely congratulate our graduates on the successful completion of their studies and wish them outstanding achievements at the next stage of their scientific careers.
