Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the next ITMP seminar will be held on Wednesday, Oct 9, 18:00 (Moscow time). It will be organised via Zoom.
Speaker: Dr. Alejandro Cabo-Bizet, University of Salento
Title: The Schwarzian from gauge-theories
Abstract: The statistical properties of near-extremal and near-supersymmetric black holes are captured by a Schwarzian theory at the boundary of their near-horizon (near) \(AdS_2\) geometry. This is a universal feature. I will explain how such a universal reduction in the complexity of the gravitational space-time geometry is triggered in a dual gauge theory formulation of quantum gravity: maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on \(\mathbb{R}\times S^3\). Concretely, I will explain how the free energy of this theory can be irreversibly driven to that of an \(\mathcal{N}=2\) Schwarzian theory at first subleading order in a small temperature (\(T\)) expansion. More generally, the proposed coarse-graining procedure reduces the small \(e^{-1/T}\) expansion of the discrete fundamental theory to an effective small-\(T\) expansion of a continuum theory. This expansion goes well beyond the linear Schwarzian term and is, in principle, comparable to the Gibbons-Hawking on-shell action of the dual non-BPS black holes. This talk is based on [2404.01540, WIP].
