Научные интересы А.А. Цейтлина включают квантовую теорию поля и квантовую гравитацию, теорию суперструн, конформную теорию поля и AdS/CFT соответствие. А.А. Цейтлин внес фундаментальный вклад в теорию суперструн и теорию поля. Он разработал описание теории суперструн с помощью сигма-моделей, открыл фундаментальную роль действия Борна-Инфельда как эффективного действия для открытой струны, разработал метод построения сложных солитонных решений, описывающих суперсимметричные связанные состояния бран в супергравитации, внес вклад в исследования D-бран, что привело к AdS / CFT соответствию, построил действие для суперструны в пространстве AdS5 x S5 и внес значительный вклад в подход к дуальности калибровочных полей и струн, основанный на интегрируемости.
