Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the next ITMP seminar (online only). As usual, it will be held on Wednesday, Mar 18, 18:00 (Moscow time).
Speaker: Dr. Adolfo Holguin, Trinity Coll., Dublin
Title: Semiclassics, branes, and extremality
Abstract: I will discuss the calculations of holographic one-point functions in the presence of probe branes, paying close attention to the case of extremal correlators. These are dual to correlation functions of operators whose dimension scale with N_c and single trace operators. I will review previous approaches in the literature, emphasizing the mismatch between the holographic computation of extremal correlators and the results obtained from N=4 SYM. We will see that the tension between string theory and gauge theory results arises from an incorrect implementation of the holographic dictionary in the extremal limit, and that extremal correlators are sensitive to further UV details that are missing from the naive supergravity approximation. I will then propose a set of bulk wavefunctions for giant graviton states that precisely reproduce the large N limit of extremal correlators.
